The 020 RGB side-view LED solves the thickness problem by emitting sideways rather than upward. At just 0.64 mm tall — roughly the thickness of a credit card edge — it couples light directly into a polycarbonate or PMMA light guide, so the visible bezel is set by the guide, not by the LED.

Inside the package sits a full-color RGB die set with independent channels. With 160 / 550 / 110 mcd output at a modest 20 mA, the part mixes to clean white as well as saturated red, green and blue — which is exactly what modern ambient-lighting products demand when they cycle through scenes, alarms and standby states.

Why Side Emission Beats Top Emission Here

• Removes hot spots — edge coupling lights the whole guide evenly, so a 600 mm strip shows one continuous line instead of dots.
• Allows thinner bezels — 0.64 mm height frees roughly 2–4 mm of stack height versus standard top-view RGB packages.

For a 60-LED/m RGB strip, run the 020 part at 20 mA per channel and specify a 2 mm guide with a matte diffusion layer — measured uniformity stays inside ±10% along the run at 300 mm from the wall. For appliance panels, reserve 1.2 mm of guide thickness so mode colors remain distinct at a 45° viewing angle. For automotive trim, the −40°C to 85°C rating and RoHS / REACH compliance cover the documentation most OEMs request at RFQ stage.
